Adachi Special Needs School held a hands-on bread sales event
On October 27, JFE Shoji Service held a bread sale by students of a special needs school at the New Otemachi Building as part of its social contribution activities.
Activities with the special needs school began in 2017 and have included a coffee tasting event, meeting room cleaning and stationery recycling using the characteristics of iron. As for the bread sales event, the first sales event was held last December, although the event was postponed several times due to the prolonged Corona disaster.
This second event was the same as the first, with students from Adachi Special Needs School selling approximately 20 kinds of handmade bread at the Shin-Otemachi Building. In addition to the homemade bread, homemade sweets such as anmitsu (sweet bean paste), pudding, and cookies were beautifully arranged on the tablecloths, making the event very festive. Students also worked the cash registers themselves and packed their purchases into handmade eco-bags made from newspapers.
A line formed in front of the main conference room even before sales began, and employees happily selected items for purchase. The venue was also very lively as each student politely served customers as well as introduced recommended products to employees. The event was a great success, with all products sold out within about 40 minutes of the start of sales.
Employees who purchased the products commented that they had not expected such a large variety, that the products were inexpensive and very tasty, and that they were glad to see the students working so hard.
We hope that this kind of simulated work experience will provide an opportunity for students to think about their own job satisfaction while experiencing failures and successes, such as "I could have done it better at school," and "I sold everything I tried.
We will continue to hold hands-on sales as part of our educational contribution activities.
Many employees lined up even before the event started.
The team also bought some bread and had it for lunch! The bread was very tasty!
The bags were all handmade from newspaper. It is just the right size to hold a few loaves of bread.
The trainees were very busy with the checkout and bagging.
