Comprehensive Disaster Drill Held Simultaneously in JFE Shoji Group
On September 15, the JFE Shoji Group held a comprehensive disaster drill simultaneously at all group companies nationwide.
Disaster drills are held every year as an opportunity to "recognize the importance of basic actions to be taken in an emergency, such as "protecting oneself" and "confirming safety," and to think about and learn the actions that each and every employee should take in response to disasters that may occur at any time of the day or night. This year, approximately 4,000 employees from 43 JFE Shoji Group companies in Japan participated in the training.
This year's drill was conducted under the assumption that an earthquake had occurred directly under the Tokyo metropolitan area, with a maximum intensity of 6 upper on the Japanese seismic scale in Otemachi, where JFE Shoji Trade's head office is located, and that telephones would be out of service due to power outages, while the Internet would be available with some delays.
When the drill was broadcast, employees put on disaster prevention helmets and hid under their desks to ensure their own safety before confirming their safety.
The company also declared a state of emergency for Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, and Saitama, and set up a disaster task force headed by President Kobayashi to coordinate with offices in Osaka and Nagoya via satellite phone and the Internet.
In addition, employees conducted a return home triage to deepen their understanding of the rules for determining when to return home, checked the stockpile warehouse where food and blankets are stored, and read over materials to reconfirm their disaster response.
We will continue to conduct disaster drills on a regular basis to ensure the safety of our employees and the continuity of our business operations in the event of a disaster.
Employees put on helmets and evacuated under their desks.
