JFE Shoji Group Comprehensive Disaster Drill was held!

On September 17, the JFE Shoji Group held a comprehensive disaster drill at all of its bases in Japan at the same time. The disaster drills are held every year as an opportunity for employees to recognize the importance of basic actions to be taken in an emergency such as "protection of oneself" and "safety confirmation" against a disaster that may occur at any time, and to think about the actions that each and every employee should take on a daily basis.

When a drill announcement is made, employees put on helmets and take shelter under their desks. Afterwards, they reported their situation to their superiors using a safety confirmation app. Each department read together using materials related to disaster prevention and confirmed important matters in the event of a disaster, while imagining in concrete terms the actions they should take in the event of a disaster. This year, taking the Nankai Trough earthquake as an example, precautions to take in the event of a tsunami and points to remember when evacuating were newly added to the reading materials.

The task force conducted a drill based on the assumption that more than 100 sites nationwide would be affected by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake with the Nankai Trough as its epicenter, in accordance with the assumptions made by the Cabinet Office. A series of initial responses, including those of group companies, were simulated from the day of the earthquake to the following day, including issuing a declaration of a state of emergency, confirming the safety of a wide area, consolidating and organizing the damage situation, and responding to the victims and affected sites. Particular emphasis was placed on evacuation of sites where a tsunami was expected to occur and response to injured employees.
