New & Career Employees Visited JFE Steel East Japan Works
On April 18, the Recruiting and Training Office organized a tour of JFE Steel East Japan Works (Chiba area), which was attended by 44 new employees and 16 new career employees.
The purpose of the tour was to learn how steel is produced and turned into products so that they can make use of this knowledge in their daily work as trading company personnel who handle "steel.
For most of the participating employees, this was their first visit to a steel mill. First, they were taken on a bus tour of the steel mill and were struck by the vastness of the site. Then, when they arrived at the plant, they saw the blast furnace melting raw materials to produce pig iron, the basis of steel, and the steelmaking process of removing impurities from the iron.
Participants were surprised and impressed by the size, temperature, sounds, and smells, all of which could only be experienced on site.
After the tour, participants returned to the building for a question-and-answer session, where many questions were raised, indicating how meaningful the tour was.
One participant commented, "I learned a lot about how many processes and people are involved in the production of the steel we handle in our daily work. I would like to communicate the possibilities of steel as a member of the JFE Group," said one participant.
Through this tour, the participants reaffirmed the importance of steel and its potential, and they are determined to make use of their knowledge in their future work.
